At Hillbourne School, we value the ideas and opinions of our children. To enable all children to have a voice and contribute towards the continuous improvement of our school, we have a School Council, which meets throughout the year to work on various themes.
The School Council is a body of students elected by their peers. It is made up of representatives from each class from Year 1 to Year 6. In their role, they are expected to gather the thoughts and ideas of the children in the class about all aspects of school life. They then take the responsibility to attend meetings and voice the opinions of the class they represent.
Being a School Council representative is considered an important role in our school and therefore the children are encouraged to think carefully before committing themselves to a year as a councillor. At the start of the academic year, children are given the opportunity to explain to their class why they feel they would make a good School Council rep. Elections are then held where the children are able to vote for their chosen candidates.
